Good To Know

Pinhais was founded in 1920 in Matosinhos, a fishing town just north of Porto, Portugal. The cannery still operates in Matosinhos today.

Yes. Pinhais has stayed with the same family since it opened, and it's still run as a small, hands-on operation.

From selecting and cleaning the fish to filling the tins and wrapping them, nearly every step is done by hand. Machines are mostly limited to shaping and sterilizing the tins.

Pinhais is the cannery, and also one of the labels it packs. Nuri and Mabuti are other labels from the same cannery, each with its own tins and recipes. All three are packed in Matosinhos.

Keep unopened tins in a cool, dry place and check the best-by date. Once opened, move leftovers to a sealed container in the refrigerator and eat them within one to two days.
