Whether you're shopping for someone who always has a tin in their bag or someone who still thinks tinned fish means the tuna aisle, FishNook is a gift that gets people talking. We put all of our favorites in one place so you can do your holiday shopping in a single stop.
Tinned fish has had a big year. More people are discovering what we've loved for a long time, and we're excited to keep sharing it all with you. The tradeoff is that tins can sell through quickly. Most of our producers are small, family-run canneries, and many of our tins are seasonal and may not be back until next year. If something in this guide catches your eye, grab it while it's here.
Here's what you'll find in this guide: our best-selling tins sorted by sardines, tuna, shellfish, and salmon, a gift subscription for the person who is hard to shop for, a monthly box for yourself, stocking stuffers under $14, a few tips for putting a gift together, and answers to common questions. Use it as a starting point, or jump straight to our best sellers or new arrivals.
Ready When They Are
Open a tin and a snack, a quick dinner, or a full board is minutes away. Tinned fish goes with what's already in the kitchen, like crusty bread, rice, pasta, or a bag of good chips, so the gift is useful the day it arrives. Looking for ideas? Our guide to 16 tasty ingredients to pair with tinned fish has plenty.
Small Producers, Real Stories
Many of our tins come from family-run canneries, so every gift has a story behind it. We work with small producers in places like Portugal, Spain, and the Faroe Islands, and we love sharing who made each tin and where it comes from. You can read more in the FishNook Guide to Tinned Fish.
Packaging Worth Showing Off
Colorful, beautifully designed tins look thoughtful in a stocking, a basket, or a gift bag. Many of our producers put real care into their tin art, so a single tin can feel like a finished gift with no extra wrapping. Our stocking stuffers under $14 are a good place to start.
A Fit for Every Budget
From stocking stuffers under $14 to a full year of monthly boxes, there's a gift at every price. Pick a single tin, a trio, a splurge like the Olasagasti Yellowfin Ventresca, or a gift subscription, and match it to the person and the budget.

If you only give one FishNook gift this year, make it a subscription. Each month, our team tastes its way through a huge selection of tins and builds a box with a mix of styles, flavors, and origins. Some are made to eat straight from the tin, and others belong in a pasta or over warm rice. They get a surprise on the doorstep, and you get credit for thinking of it.
A tinned fish subscription gift is a prepaid monthly box of tinned seafood, chosen by our team and sent to someone you want to treat. You pick the length, we take care of the curation, and your recipient gets a new box of tins to try every month. It works for someone who already loves tinned fish and for someone who has never opened a tin, because every box is built to be approachable and a little surprising.
You start by choosing a plan of 3, 6, or 12 months, adding a personal message, and scheduling when the first box should arrive. We then send your recipient a beautifully designed email with a gift code and a first look at what's ahead. They redeem the code on our site and enter their own shipping address, so you never have to track down an address or give away the surprise. From there, a box arrives each month for the length of the plan.
The 3 month plan is $120, and it's a good fit for a thank-you or a first gift. The 6 month plan is $240 and gives them half a year to build a pantry of favorites. The 12 month plan is $480 and covers a full year of discovery, which makes it a thoughtful pick for birthdays and anniversaries as well as the holidays.
Every box includes 3 to 4 tins. Our team tastes its way through a wide selection each month and builds a box with a mix of styles, flavors, and origins, chosen for a balance of flavors, textures, and culinary traditions. Some tins are made to eat straight from the tin with good bread. Others are better tossed into pasta or spooned over warm rice.
It suits the home cook who is always looking for something new, the host who likes to put out a spread, the friend who has everything, and the curious first-timer who doesn't know where to start. It's also a good way to stay in touch with someone far away, since a new box shows up on their doorstep each month. To see the kinds of tins they might receive, browse our best sellers and new arrivals.
You choose when your recipient is told about their gift, so you can buy it now and have it announced later. Your gift message appears when they redeem. If your recipient has an allergy, such as a shellfish allergy, they can email hello@shopfishnook.com before their order ships and we will do our best to accommodate them. If they lose the redemption email, you or they can reach out and we'll track it down. You can read more on shipping and delivery, or contact us with any questions.

💰 01 • Mix Price Points
Pair a couple of stocking stuffer tins with one special tin. The gift feels full and personal without a big spend. A trio of two easy favorites and one surprise works well.
🥖 02 • Add Something to Eat It With
A good loaf, a box of crackers, or a jar of pickles turns a tin into a ready-made snack board. Add a lemon, and they have everything they need for a first tasting.
📝 03 • Include a Serving Idea
A short note helps first-timers: straight from the tin with lemon, over warm rice, or tossed into pasta. Our pairing guide has 16 easy ideas you can borrow.
✨ 04 • Keep the Wrapping Simple
The tins are colorful on their own. A basket, a tote, or a linen napkin tied around them is all they need. Skip the tissue paper and let the tin art be the decoration.
🎁 05 • Send a Subscription
A gift subscription can be bought now and delivered later, because you choose when we let them know. It's a good option when you aren't sure which tins they already own.
🐟 06 • Start Mild for First-Timers
Olive oil sardines and salmon are a friendly place to begin. Save bolder tins, like Maruxaina Stuffed Baby Squid in Ink or Fangst Smoked Sea Herring, for the adventurous eater.
What is tinned fish, and why is it so popular?
Tinned fish, also called conservas in Spanish and Portuguese traditions, is seafood that has been hand-packed with olive oil, sauces, or seasonings and sealed to preserve its flavor and texture. It has become popular because it's delicious, easy to serve, and a great way to taste foods from small producers around the world.
How does shipping work?
Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days, and orders over $95 ship free. We ship to all 50 U.S. states, and rates for smaller orders are calculated at checkout based on your address. You can read the details on our shipping and delivery page.
How does a gift subscription work?
Choose a 3, 6, or 12 month plan, add a personal message, and schedule when the first box should arrive. We email your recipient a gift code, and they redeem it and enter their own shipping address. Each box has 3 to 4 tins. Learn more on our gift subscription page.
Do tins need to be refrigerated?
Unopened tins are shelf-stable, so they can wait in the pantry until you're ready. Once a tin is open, move any leftovers to a covered container in the refrigerator and enjoy them soon.
What if the person I'm gifting has an allergy?
Many of our tins are produced in facilities that also handle shellfish and other allergens, so please check the product pages and reach out if you have questions. For gift subscriptions, your recipient can email hello@shopfishnook.com before their order ships, and we will do our best to accommodate them.
What if a tin arrives damaged?
We pack every box with care, so this is rare. If a tin arrives dented or damaged to the point it isn't safe to eat, take a photo and contact us within 48 hours. Our Return & Refund Policy has the next steps.
